summary of my year in photos

I got my camera on the 24th of december last year at the dinner with my family we always have for christmas. A few weeks ago, i got the idea to put together a summary of the photos i've taken throughout the year to show to the family at this christmas evening as they are the same lot of people that saw me get the camera a year ago.

The gallery are not what i consider to be my best works through the year. Instead, i tried to capture my personal journey of progress with my camera. I think i generally succeeded in having the photos put into chronological order, but there may be a few deviations. As i have generally categorized my photos into folders by the dates they were taken, i have a bunch of folders each marked with a date. I tried to make it a rule that every folder would be represented with at least one photo and not much more. Considering the gallery has 124 photos in it and that there are only 365 days in the year and keeping reality in mind, you can of course see that some folders are represented by quite a few more, but i consider them photos important to me for some reason.

Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, the summary of JP's year in photos.

I think i really have to optimize the relationship between posting to the blog and to flickr.
Today, a basketball photo "got the front cover". A street shot is available at flickr by clicking on the above photo.

the many sides of winter

the many sides of winter, originally uploaded by payl.

I'm coming to a dilemma here. As you may have noticed, i upload two photos to flickr and only post one of them to this blog.
This has led me to ponder if i should only post one photo to flickr and then post it here or post the two here.

The theory is that its customary for a photoblog to showcase only one photo per day (of course not all photoblogs follow this rule), and flickr isn't so conventional so i'm thinking what to do.

Today i uploaded two to flickr and posted only the above one here, what will be done in the future shall be seen.

the brown has arrived

I finally had the ballz to hax this thing, yo.

The ghetto speak aside, you can probably see this place has changed. If you can't either you are a retard or i did something wrong. Both are possible.

So yes, this was because this blog has been getting more photo-centered by the day and the previous format wasn't really very good for displaying photos. I went the same way many estonian photobloggers have gone, took the simplest black theme from the blogger default themes list and modified it a bit, just the same as tiivik, lars, plahvatus, the supersnap and johann, all very fine indeed estonian blogs worth having a look at.
I also want to mention me main man kubic who has gone a bit further and haxed his very own custom template from the ground up.

There might (and probably will) be some minor glitches here and there and some modifications yet until i get everything right, but mostly, here you have it. I hope you like it.
If you have any suggestions or complaints, let me know.

So a few new photos up at flickr yet again.

I went to shoot the mini with ideas in my mind, but what i really ended up with on my memory card was very different from what i expected. You pretty much see the result above.
The first basketball photo from yesterday is also available at flickr by clicking on the above photo.

I uploaded a couple of desktop backgrounds, mostly made by me and in 1280*1024 resolution to this folder.

I did this mostly just to look through all the backgrounds that have collected in my graphics folder over the years. As they have been made for personal use only, you can see why there are no multiple-resolution editions or why the level of proffessionality and the subject matter vary as much as they do.
So i looked through what i have made over the years and uploaded some of the ones i thought someone might find useful.

Looking at them in retrospect, i could say that you'd have the highest chance of getting onto a my desktop if you were a beautiful girl. Or a beautiful thing such as a bike or a car or a plant, even.

So go here if you want a look at them and are cool with 1280*1024 backgrounds.

If you ask me, that sort of thing is a bit disrespectful towards all the american soldiers that died. Not that i'd be generally in favour of war or soldiers, but still.

On another note, here is the full res version that Sander asked for. I can also make middle-sized versions, it's no problem, just ask.

life lately

I've been busy lately, as you have obviously seen. Some people have gone as far as to declare this blog dead but i'm very sorry to inform you that this is not the case.

I just got back from seeing a movie provided by the Pöff. It was a movie entitled "Kebab Connection" and was mighty wicked. It was about a german-turkish fellow named Ibo (leet name innit?) and his life. What made the movie good was part cartoonish humour part high-spirited jokes and the advertisements in the movie. Ibo, you see, was a film director and made ads to make money. All of the ads we saw were brilliant.

I hope this got you interested (but it probably didn't) and if you want to know more look it up on google, try to see it somehow, or as a last resort, ask me about it.

So today we attended the opening of the new chinese restaurant in the neighbourhood, zen-zen. To be very honest with you, it is the first chinese restaurant in the hood. It uses the same places just a random cafe used to occupy just a few months ago.

(and i cant find the site for it yet)

The interior was mostly cheap. That means certain compromises in looks, but the furniture was comfortable and looked sturdy. But we can forgive the few compromises for the food was generally good and the portions were positively huge. I had a bowl of rice for 30 kroons and it would have easily fed two. I also had a dish of chicken with more appropriate restaurant prices (80 kroons) wich had bones in it and was a bit salty, but some others' dishes for the same prices i tasted were very good.

They also serve either custom-made or imported dumplings with all sorts of stuff inside them that they do not sell around here as far as i know.

I also learned that beer isn't very expensive, if one refrains from being picky.

The place was packed with people to an extent that the nice chinese fellow owning the place had to send some people away at times due to lack of seating speace. I'm proud to note that the percentage of people from our school did not go under 50 very often. (Why nobody was at their lessons is a completely different matter, of course, and to be discussed in a further post i'm never going to write.)

In general, i could say it's a good place if you haven't got a lot of money and want some tasty rice and beer (or what ever) or even if you do and can afford something fancier.

And yeah, i uploaded a few photos i took yesterday.
